Misty Megia review

I'm so grateful that Stacy was my guide on this journey starting with only an idea and finishing with a manuscript. Stacy is brilliant! Her kindness belies the fact that she can challenge you and push you to be better than you even realize. I don't think of myself as a structured person, and yet with Stacy's help, I developed a repeatable process for creative time every day to allow me to efficiently and successfully create. All the time we took at the beginning to create goals for the book and to clarify my audience and my goals has provided even greater clarity around my business. The value of your business acumen has added so much more depth to the process, my business, and my confidence in building the life I want. — Amy Lafko, founder, Cairn Consulting Solutions

Stacy Ennis

I’ve been right where you are now.

When I started writing my first book in 2012, I was uncertain of my own ability. While I was an accomplished professional, I doubted my ideas, expertise, and story, and wondered if I’d be able to accomplish my lifelong dream of writing a book. I was working crazy long hours and about to become a new mom. But even though I was afraid of failure (and success), I did it anyway.

And then I wrote another book. And another. Along the way, my income doubled and doubled again. My latest coauthored book became a #1 best seller and stood cover-to-cover next to books by authors like Brené Brown, Rachel Hollis, and Stephen Covey. I’ve flown all over the world delivering keynotes and trainings, and have had the opportunity to influence thousands of people through my writing and speaking. And I’m convinced that’s all because I was brave enough to sit down, write, and publish my first book. My life would be completely different if I hadn’t said “yes” to that book and stepped into my purpose.

As one client put it, “A book is worth a million dollars in revenue.” I’ll add: A great book is worth thousands of lives impacted.
You can have an incredible level of impact—but first, you have to write your book. Luckily, I have a process that will help you.

Your step-by-step book-writing process is here.

Drawing on my work with hundreds of aspiring authors, I’ve developed a step-by-step accelerated author program to help you write your nonfiction book. Over twelve weeks, you’ll walk through targeted trainings, live workshops, expert coaching, and deep-dive QA sessions alongside other future authors. I’ll guide you through each step of writing your nonfiction book, from idea to finished manuscript, and teach you a clear process to take the guesswork out of writing and unleash your creative genius—even if you don’t think you’re a writer!

Think of me as your expert guide, your biggest supporter, and a coach who cares deeply about helping you finally write a book that will catapult you toward your purpose. Plus, you’ll be journeying alongside a world-changing cohort of motivated future authors. Powerful.

I’m a #1 best-selling author, ghostwriter, book coach, and speaker. I travel the world to train on book writing, messaging, and using the written word for impact. Over the last ten-plus years in the publishing industry, I’ve written, ghostwritten, coached, edited, or influenced hundreds of books. I also served as the long-time ghostwriter for a Nobel Prize winner in medicine and as executive editor of a national magazine that reached around 11 million readers. I’ve trained leaders from Starbucks, The Boeing Company, Intuit, and more.

I fell in love with books at age seven and have been obsessed ever since. As a kid and teen, I took every elective writing course; as an adult, I earned a bachelor’s in writing and a master’s in professional writing and editing. Today, as a trainer, my style is interactive and inviting yet highly practical. I want you to be super productive and have a blast writing your book—because it’s fun! When I’m not writing my typical 2.5 books per year, I’m exploring Portugal, where my husband, two kids, and I currently live. I’ve also lived in the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, and Thailand. I’m a runner, reader (shocker!), and world explorer who believes life is a great adventure and travel is better with a good book.

What you’ll learn in this live 12-week accelerated author program.

Trainings, worksheets, and templates will be delivered week by week from May 4 through July 20, 2021.

Pretraining
DEFINE YOUR VISION AS AN AUTHOR
You’re writing a book as part of a bigger mission and purpose. In this training (available immediately when you enroll), I’ll walk you through how to articulate the impact you want to have as an author, starting with your big vision for your life. You’ll receive the life visioning guide I use with all my private coaching clients to help you understand how to thoughtfully engage in creating a vision. Clarity of vision will help you dig deep when you’re in the thick of writing—and find meaning in the transformative process of book writing (and it is life changing!). Plus, with a clear why, you’ll be much more likely to finish your draft and share it with the world.
Week 1
THE NONFICTION BOOK-WRITING PROCESS
I’ll demystify the book-writing process with this overview training covering idea to publication, including the why behind a book (so important!). You’ll learn the difference between the creation and production processes, and we’ll dive deeply into creation: idea, outline, write, and revise. By the end of this training, you’ll have a clear, high-level view of the entire process of writing and publishing, plus have a comprehensive overview of our next weeks together.
Week 2
HOW TO COME UP WITH A GREAT BOOK IDEA
In this live workshop, you’ll engage in my proven book-ideation process. Using sticky notes, markers, and your most creative brain, I’ll guide you through a hands-on, guided ideation activity to help you uncover your great idea. You’ll have an opportunity to share your idea with a partner and receive exercises to further clarify your book idea to prepare for writing. This workshop is a lot of fun and will push you to develop a solid book idea that connects to your big vision. Come ready to think, create, and refine!
Week 3
CREATE YOUR BOOK CONCEPT AND CLARIFY YOUR READER
This training builds on the book-ideation process. You’ll expand on the idea you developed by writing a book concept—a one-page section of your book outline that describes your book idea, core takeaways, audience, and other important elements of your book. I also provide a book outline template and reader persona worksheet to help you clarify your audience. Getting specific about your reader will also help you define your author niche. By the end of this training, you’ll have the tools you need to complete the most important page of your outline.
Week 4
LEARN THE STRUCTURE AND FLOW OF NONFICTION BOOKS
This training details the three core structures of nonfiction books, and why storytelling is critical to the success of your book. You’ll learn my number-one rule of structure and flow, along with the four S’s of structure and how narrative arc applies to nonfiction. As we walk through the main structures of nonfiction books, you’ll consider which yours fits into. We’ll also look at when to use sections to break up chapters. After the training, you’ll revisit your book concept to ensure your book has a solid throughline—a guiding idea, story, or message that connects from the first to last chapters. You’ll also be equipped to define the structure of your book and write high-level chapter descriptions.
Week 5
EXPAND YOUR BOOK OUTLINE AND START WRITING!
In this live workshop, I teach you how to plan your book like a pro. The goal: create an outline that is so well-organized that your writing time is efficient, effective, and—gasp!—enjoyable. You’ll learn how to utilize your book concept and chapter descriptions to build out the rest of your outline. I also cover other structural elements to consider, like front and back matter, and you’ll get time to workshop your current outline in a small group. You’ll leave this training with the knowledge and confidence to finalize your outline so you can start writing your book.
Week 6
CREATE A WRITING PLAN AND INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY
This training details expert strategies to help you achieve your goal of writing a book. I’ll walk you through how to create and stick to a writing routine, get into the flow faster, and accomplish quality writing in less time. I’ll also show you how to calendar out your writing using a template in Asana, a project management software program I love. I’ve refined this template over several years and multiple books, and it will serve as an invaluable resource for your entire book-writing journey. After this training, you will calendar out your book—and continue toward your goal of finishing the first draft!
Week 7
LIVE COACHING AND ACCOUNTABILITY CHECK-IN
This workshop is all about you: accountability, encouragement, and addressing any challenges at this stage of the book-writing process. There will be a helpful “hot seat” coaching session with a volunteer from the cohort, and then you’ll meet in small groups to share your progress and get feedback to keep you engaged and inspired to get your draft done. This workshop is a student favorite because we get to connect together, all accountable to a shared goal of writing a great, meaningful book.
Week 8
WRITE LIKE A BEST-SELLING AUTHOR
This training provides industry secrets for writing a great book. You’ll learn five elements to a great chapter—structure, storytelling, voice, clarity, and detail—along with expert tips to level up your writing. I also detail writing roadblocks (self-editing while you write, anyone?) and show you how to overcome them like a pro. Finally, this training provides support, encouragement, and accountability—which are crucial at this stage of the writing journey, because this is where many authors abandon their drafts. This module is designed to be informative and keep you accountable and on track as you write your book.
Week 9
ALL ABOUT THE BOOK-EDITING PROCESS
The book-editing process is widely misunderstood, and this training helps debunk common misconceptions. Along with keeping you encouraged and motivated to write your book, we’ll cover the power of the editing process, the four stages of book editing, and how to utilize self- and professional editing to transform your book from good to great. You’ll also learn how to hire and work with an editor, and get advice on how to ensure your editor knows her or his stuff. As a former book editor, I love talking about editing! You’ll learn my book-revision process and receive a book-editing checklist and beta reader form.
Week 10
LIVE COACHING AND ACCOUNTABILITY CHECK-IN
This second accountability workshop is focused on maintaining the accountability, encouragement, and support you need to finish your draft. Along with another “hot seat” session with a student—maybe you!—you’ll meet in small groups to share your progress and get feedback. These opportunities to connect and share help create a community of authors journeying together. You’ll leave feeling connected, accountable, and inspired to move forward in completing your draft.
Week 11
THE THREE MAIN TYPES OF PUBLISHING
Self-publishing, partner publishing, traditional publishing—oh, my! The world of publishing can feel like learning a new language, and this training is here to help. I’ll walk you through the three main types of publishing, and share a set of questions to help you determine the right path for you. You’ll also receive my What Will My Book Cost? guide to help you understand the costs involved in self-publishing a best-seller-quality book. At the end of this training, you’ll have clear instruction and direction to explore which publishing option is for you—and take the next step to share your book with the world!
Week 12
NEXT STEPS AND AUTHOR READING
This live workshop is part training, part workshop, and part author reading. We’ll recap core learnings to guide your author journey, and you’ll have an opportunity to share how you’ve learned and grown during the program. You’ll also have a chance to read part of your work in progress—your first author reading—and state one personal commitment to finish your book. I love this workshop because we get to connect, reflect, and continue to grow together, and I get to hear about your journey throughout the program. You’ll leave with the tools and motivation to finish your book!
Bonus Trainings and Templates
FORMAT LIKE A PRO
We won’t leave you hanging with the tech side of writing a book (and yes, there is a tech side!). Along with targeted worksheets and checklists, you’ll get three editable templates and video trainings: a book outline template; a manuscript template; and a project management template.

Just a quick note to say thank you for how truly wonderful you are. You have no idea how helpful you have been on this book journey for me (though I bet you can guess!). Thank you for your wisdom, encouragement, expertise, and contacts. Book writing is HARD—harder than I gave it credit for—and having you as a part of this journey has made it so much easier. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The strategic book coaching Stacy did for my book LAUNCH: How to Get Your Kids Through College Debt-Free and Into Jobs They Love Afterward gave me the structure, clear direction, and shaping that netted me a long string of 100% five-star reviews on Amazon, plus thousands of dollars in royalties in my very first week after release. She is infinitely gentle, positive, kind, and supportive to work with. Five stars. Highly, highly recommended.
—Jeannie Burlowski, academic strategist and speaker

Stacy helped me clarify my goals, create a reader-friendly structure, and develop a writing schedule that meshed with my already-more-than-full-time job. She coached me regularly to improve my writing and sharpen my ideas. Most importantly, she provided unending positive reinforcement to keep me going to complete a first draft. Stacy, I couldn’t have done this without you. I owe you gigantic thanks.

How does the application process work?
I’m so excited you’re considering applying to Nonfiction Book School! Applications are open through April 20, 2021. To apply, click here, enter your name and email address, and submit the form. You’ll receive an email link to complete the application and will also be redirected to the application page, which takes about 10 minutes to complete. Once you’ve submitted your application, I’ll get back to you within 48 hours for next steps—and hopefully an invitation to enroll!
What are you looking for in applicants? Will I get in?
I request applications for the program to ensure that the program is a right fit for you, and that the community of authors is a vibrant, driven, forward-moving group of people who are out to make a difference in this world. I don’t expect your idea to be fully fleshed out—heck, you don’t even have to know what you want to write about!—but I do hope to see heart and commitment in your application. Don’t worry if you’re feeling totally fuzzy about your book. I’ll help you with that.

If you are an individual who is driven to share an idea or story with the world, and want to grow your influence, impact, or income, you are probably a great fit for the program. Many NBS students are professionals, entrepreneurs, leaders, or bighearted individuals who see a book as a step toward their bigger purpose. Some want to write a book because it’s been a lifelong goal or they have a compelling story to share. If you’re not sure whether you’re a fit, apply anyway! I’ll help you determine whether it’s the program for you. And if you’re dealing with self-doubt about whether you’re “successful enough” to apply, kick that negative self-talk to the curb! You don’t have to be superhuman or uber successful to write a book. You just need to show up and write.

When does the program begin?
The program starts Tuesday, May 4, 2021, and runs through Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
How much time do I need to commit each week to be successful?
Every book project is unique, so it’s difficult to give an exact time estimate. However, I can provide some guidelines based on your commitment level. If you’re looking to develop the skillset of writing a book, engage in the community, and make some progress on your draft, I suggest two to four hours per week of focused time. If you’d like to make solid progress and go deep with the community and coaching, set aside four to six hours per week. And if you want to finish your first draft—or at least get close—within the 12 weeks, I suggest setting aside 10 or more hours per week.
What is the schedule of classes?
Recorded trainings will be available and live workshops will take place on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. EDT. Deep-dive QAs are 30 minutes long and occur on non-workshop weeks on Thursdays at 11 a.m. EDT to give you time to complete that week’s training. And don’t worry—you’ll have a full list of dates within the program platform once you enroll!

Can’t attend a live session because you’re traveling or in a meeting? Don’t worry—each training session will be recorded and uploaded within 48 hours, and you’ll have lifetime access to the trainings and other resources (to use for your next book!).

How do you deliver the live trainings and QAs?
We’ll meet by Zoom for the live workshops and deep-dive QAs. All live videos and accompanying resources will be uploaded within 48 hours to Kajabi, the program platform.
What do students say is the biggest benefit of the program?
Students are largely surprised and delighted by how transformative the book-writing process is for them. For many aspiring authors, “writing a book” is this big, complex thing—but in Nonfiction Book School, it’s broken down into a clear, step-by-step process to encourage deep introspection that leads to clarity of purpose and vision. Powerful, right? Two other big benefits students report: transformed schedules and community. I teach a time-blocking process to create time to write, which many students utilize well after the program ends—it becomes a lifestyle! NBS alumni have also become good friends, cheering each other on as they launch books and step into their purpose. The NBS community is welcoming and inspiring!
What is your methodology behind this accelerated author program?
I built Nonfiction Book School on a simple premise: structure begets creativity. My signature framework has been honed for more than a decade, both in writing my own books and guiding students to write theirs, and I’ve seen the power of a clear, step-by-step framework to enable aspiring authors to write great books they’re proud to share with the world.

Importantly, NBS is not built to help you write a book lightning fast. I don’t believe books should be written in a weekend or without close attention to quality. Your ideas and stories deserve more of your energy and time to write a great book, not just a done book. Every step of my process is designed to help you dig deep, be highly productive, and write the book you’ve dreamed of.

I’m writing a novel. Is this program for me?
This author accelerator program is specifically geared toward nonfiction books. That said, I used a similar process to plan and cowrite Growing Influence, a business fable I coauthored with Ron Price. You will likely still get a lot out of this program, but I want to be clear that I will not be teaching you how to write a novel; the program curriculum is tailored toward big-idea, how-to, and information-focused nonfiction books. If you apply, be sure to let me know you’re working on a novel so I can share additional resources.
How is this different than every other “write your book” course out there?
Nowhere on this site will you find the phrase “Write your book in a weekend!” or “Write a book in just 14 days!” This author accelerator program treats writing a book as more than a box to be checked off as quickly as possible. Books should be more than just a calling card for your business, and great books aren’t generally written in days. My perspective is that you should write the best book you possibly can, one that will have a profound impact on readers and your brand. This program will teach you how to write a great book—one that can stand the test of time, one that you’re proud to share with the world. That takes months, not days. You can do it! I will give you the guidance to get there.
I’m on the fence. Why should I apply?
Because you have a book inside you! You have ideas that need to be shared and a story that can change lives! I deeply believe in your potential to impact thousands with your thought leadership. For many of my students and clients, investing in themselves pays off for years—and completely transforms their careers and lives. As one student put it, “This program has the highest ROI of anything I’ve invested in in the last five years.” I’ll help you uncover the book that is waiting to be written.

Your book is waiting! Apply now.
